The Lora turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) arrive at the Ostional Wildlife Refuge in a natural spectacle that happens in very few places in the world.   

The refuge has a protected area of 7km2 on both land and sea. This is where the different species arrive at least eleven times throughout the year. It is an unforgettable experience for those who are lucky enough to witness this occurrence.   

Ostional is a privileged beach because of the arrival of the Lora turtle, which travel to this coastline attracted by its natural beauty and instinct. Their instinct guides them every year to the same place that they were born to complete their natural cycle. 

The Lora turtle is the smallest of all the species. An adult can measure close to 65,7 cms and its offspring measure approx 43 cms. The Lora turtles can lay between 80 to 120 eggs and the incubation period is from 45 to 58 days, depending on the environmental conditions.

If you come via Nicoya, a city that is notable for its colonial character, take the crossing towards Nosara, pass through Barco Quebrado, Playa Garza, Guiones, Nosara and from there towards Ostional, where an abudance of greenery and amazing beaches await you.

From Santa Cruz, land of national folklore, you can take the route towards 27 de abril, Río Seco, Playa Lagarto, Marbella and San Juanillo, until you get to Ostional.
